Hurricane Preparedness

Hurricane season is upon us once again so we would like to remind people it is never too early to start preparations. We always hope they are never needed but as the saying goes ‘Better Safe Than Sorry’

In case you are unaware: We are in evacuation ZONE D (flood zone x)

Flood - FEMA flood zone designations for FEMA flood maps - A, AE, AH, AO, A99, C, X, V, VE

An excellent source for local information is Pinellas County’s  excellent Hurricane Preparedness Guide
You will also find  National Weather Service offer some great information.

In the event of a Hurricane Alert for our County, for the safety of yourself and your neighbors we would ask:

  • Remove or firmly secure any objects from around your Villa which could become flying missiles and cause damage to not only your own Villa but those close to you. The large plant pot in your front yard may weigh 60LB but bear in mind a Hurricane can easily bring down an oak tree.
  • If you use plywood (or other type of covering) to protect your windows make sure it is fitted securely.
  • If you are aware of an empty unit with outside furniture or other loose items please contact us as soon as possible to allow time for them to be moved.
  • If you yourself are unable to move items please let us know. We are in the process of assembling a list of people willing to offer ‘Hurricane Help’ (See Below)
  • Don’t forget about pets: Your animals will need a clean supply of water and extra food also. Be prepared with a pet carrier just in case you do have to evacuate.
  • It goes without saying, keep your vehicle topped off with gas at the first hint of a Hurricane. You may not have to evacuate but it could become your only source for charging your cell phone
Tip: Place all your documents/valuables in zip-lock bags and store in the dishwasher. It is the most waterproof place in your Villa.

Hurricane Help Scheme
If you are prepared to offer help should we be unfortunate enough to have an approaching hurricane, we would love to hear from you.
We are not expecting anyone to risk life or limb by moving/lifting heavy objects but to simply help anyone physically unable to tidy up around their Villa, perhaps do a walk around a street and keep a look out for people who may need assistance.
Hopefully we can end up with a few people for each street to act as monitors.
Helping with clean-up as well is always appreciated. As demonstrated after our close call in 2017 we would expect a large amount of debris.
